Inductive proximity sensors are designed to detect metal objects.
An inductive proximity sensor consists essentially of an oscillator that forms the sensing surface and an alternating magnetic field is generated around the coil.
When a metal object is in the magnetic field generated by the sensor, the induced current forms an additional magnetic field that prevents the coil magnetic field from alternating and the oscillation stops. This causes the output driver to act, producing a normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC) output signal by sensor type.
