LG launches OLED TV program in mainland China or extends it to next year
Recently, LG people revealed to reporters that the plan to release OLED TV in the near future has been postponed or will be released until next year.
At the China Home Appliances Exhibition held in Shanghai in March this year, the LG booth once showed OLED TVs. This is the first time that home OLED TVs have appeared in China. LG said at the time that it will be available for sale at the end of August, priced at around RMB 80,000.
At present, only Samsung and LG have released OLED TVs abroad, and the industry is very concerned about when OLED TVs are officially registered in the domestic market. However, according to the above-mentioned person, due to the decision-making level, LG's plan to sell OLED TV in mainland China is basically ruined this year, and the release time may be postponed until some time next year.
Due to its high color number, good display performance and more energy saving, OLED has become the industry's recognized next-generation display technology. However, subject to upstream factors, the downstream market has been slow to start. After the exit of the energy-saving subsidy policy, the product upgrade of the color TV industry has become imminent, and the large-size and high-resolution has become the mainstream of technology. From the current situation, the 4K TV market has started, and the progress of OLED in China is still slow.
A color TV enterprise technology executive told reporters that OLED's own technology has no problems. The main reason why the market cannot start is that the products are not mature and the production capacity is not supported. At present, the yield of OLED panels is generally only about 20%. The 55-inch OLED TV produced by LG sells for as much as $10,000 in foreign countries. Moreover, there is no large sales, only ordering and display.
But the executive said that the OLED market is a matter of time. It is only because the price of 4K is closer to consumers, so it is temporarily impossible to replace it.
At present, domestic panel makers BOE and Huaxing Optoelectronics are all laying out OLED panel production lines. Samsung recently acquired German OLED manufacturer Novaled, showing its determination to be optimistic about the OLED industry. Analysts believe that there are not many OLED panels currently used in small-screen smart terminals. After the yield increase and cost reduction, the application fields will gradually shift to large-size terminals in the future.
