Vishay's new ultra-thin power inductors save valuable space for portable electronics
Recently, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc announced the launch of two new series of ultra-thin power inductors for the DC/DC conversion in portable electronics - the IFL and IFLS series. The Vishay Dale IFL and IFLS series devices are available in 1212, 1616 and 2020 with a height of 1.0mm and a maximum inductance of 100μH, which is usually achieved with larger devices.

These devices are available today with small size, high inductance, and 5MHz frequency for notebooks, desktop PCs and servers, ultra-thin, high-current power and point-of-load (POL) converters, and for distributed power and FPGAs. The DC/DC converter provides a space saving solution.
The IFL and IFLS series of devices feature ferrite cores, polyurethane coated copper wires and epoxy adhesives. The unshielded IFL series has a typical DCR from 42mΩ to 2460mΩ with a rated saturation current of 7.5A. The shielded IFLS series protects adjacent components from magnetic radiation. Typical DCRs range from 43mΩ to 1730mΩ with a current rating of 3.8A. All of these devices are RoHS compliant and operate over the -40°C to +105°C temperature range.
The IFL and IFLS series of inductors will be available in the first quarter of 2017 and will be in volume production. The lead time for major orders is ten weeks.
